Regrettably, there is no agreed definition of ΓÇÿcuredΓÇÖ acromegaly. Serum GH is less than 1mu/l (0.5mg/ml) in the circulation of normal subjects, except during stress or spontaneous brief pulses which occur during the day. In assessing activity, some authors use basal serum GH levels at 0900h, whilst others measure the mean GH concentration during a glucose tolerance test.
It seems most logical to take several measurements during a normal day to assess the average serum GH level to which the patient's tissues are exposed as an indicator of the response to treatment.
